Tip 54: Travel with Non-Perishable Snacks When Flying

Parents know the importance of packing snacks when traveling with children.  However, we don’t heed the same advice when traveling solo.  Although snacks are available for purchase at the airport and in the airplane, there is no guarantee that you’ll have time to stop and shop or that your preferred snacks will be available.  Unexpected travel delays happen and being hangry doesn’t help anyone.  Have at least two non-perishable snacks with you- the more protein, the better.

Tip 53: Travel with a LED nightlight

Hotel rooms are very dark at night and it can be very disorienting to wake up in a strange room.  Traveling with a night light can be comforting for kids and useful for adults who need to get up in the middle of the night.  The new LED night lights eliminate the fear of having a broken light bulb in your luggage.

Tip 52: Join Hotel Loyalty Programs

Hotels are competing for your business and reward loyalty.  Sign up for free hotel loyalty programs and be sure to list your loyalty number on each reservation.  In addition to earning free night stays, you may also be eligible for valuable room upgrades and free amenities.  Even if you rarely stay in hotels, your loyalty number could earn you free bottled water, free Wi-Fi, free parking or even a late check out.

Tip 50: Borrow travel books

I admit I am mostly a consumer of digital content these days and mostly rely on podcasts and Google searches to learn about areas I am traveling to. Still there is a huge benefit to travel books and maps..I love maps! So while we have previously suggested ebooks and related apps, this tip is all about the good old fashion page turner.

Have you considered borrowing travel books rather than buying them? Honestly I hadn’t as I regularly buy the cheapest, newest used book I can find on Amazon, but recently my son wanted to spend a rainy afternoon wondering around the library…and I wasn’t about to discourage that. I was surprised at how many travel books, magazines and videos were available for loan at our local library. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Now off to study up for our upcoming Cuba trip!
