Beware of the Basic Economy Airline Tickets

We’re all looking for a good deal on airfare and today’s easy access to travel sites allows us to compare and contrast fares across airlines. Travelers may expect to tack on additional costs to the ultra low cost carriers’ tickets but beware that the basic economy tickets on major carriers may also lack some of the standard options. These lower ticket prices may include restrictions like no seat choice, no carry on baggage, no upgrades and no qualifying frequent flyer miles. Read the fine print and be sure that the airline ticket you purchase does in fact include the options that are important to you. We love a good deal at LTP, but not at the expense of our upgrade eligibility!

Tip 84: Long cruise at a discount

Are you a cruise traveler who just loves being on the ship? If so, checkout the repositioning cruises offered by most cruise lines. Depending on the season, cruise ships will run different routes. For example, one ship may transition from doing Mediterranean cruises in the summer to Caribbean cruises in the winter. This means the ship will need to make a one-way trip across the Atlantic ocean. Typically, these cruises are sold at a discount and have just a few port stops with many days at sea while crossing the ocean. You’ll get the same lovely cruise experience at a fraction of the cost!

Tip 83: Double-check What Is Included on Discount Airlines

Have you seen those crazy low airfare advertisements? Is a $29 flight to Orlando really true? Well, it depends. Yes, you may be able to get a flight for $29. However, to select a seat, check a bag, bring with you a carry-on bag or order a soft drink during flight, be prepared to pay.

Before booking the cheap flight, consider the add-ons you expect to have. The low-cost providers’ websites outline how all their fees work. The total cost may be well above $29. Don’t be surprised during your travel!
