Tip 59: Download Entertainment for your Travels

Depending on your mode of transportation, movies or TV shows may be available during your trip.  However, there is no guarantee that you’ll like the options provided.  To help the trip go by faster, download your favorite programs to your laptop, tablet or phone before you leave.  Movies can be rented for as little as 99 cents from your favorite online provider and results in hours of entertainment.  If you decide to not watch a rented movie that you downloaded, it may be available for up to 30 days for you to watch later.

Tip 58: Choosing the Right Seat on the Airplane

Planning to sleep on the entire flight?  If so, secure a window seat so that you don’t block others from exiting into the aisle.  No one likes to be awaken just so a passenger can move around.  No one likes to wake a sleeping stranger either.  Want to move around the plane during the flight?  Reserve an aisle seat.

Tip 57: Check into Flights in Advance

Today, airlines provide multiple ways to check into flights including via mobile apps.  Most airlines will allow customers to check in up to 24 hours in advance of their departure.  Don’t wait until you’re at the airport to check in.  Airlines can oversell their flights and give away your seat if you don’t check in by their prescribed time.

Tip 56: Invest in TSA Pre-Check

Speed through domestic USA TSA security lines by securing TSA Pre-Check status.  For an $85 membership fee, you can quickly move through TSA Security lines without the need to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts or jackets.  An application and security check are required.  The membership is good for 5 years.  In addition, this will provide peace of mind when time is short to catch a flight.

Tip 55: Keep a Travel Blanket in your Carry On Bag

Most overnight flights provide airplane blankets to customers.  However, there is no guarantee that the free blanket will be available to those in coach.  Airplanes are also notoriously cold.  Depending upon your seat, you could feel a draft throughout your flight.  For women, consider buying an inexpensive pashmina to serve as a blanket, pillow, or wrap (for chilly restaurants) – it is  a multi-purpose piece that is great for traveling. Be prepared and keep a travel blanket in your carry on bag- just in case!
